Description
The Son, il film diretto da Florian Zeller, racconta la storia di Nicholas (Zen McGrath), che due anni dopo il divorzio dei genitori, ancora diciassettenne, decide che non ne può più di vivere con sua madre. Il ragazzo ormai è affetto da un costante male di vivere, che riesce a placare solo rifugiandosi nei ricordi d'infanzia, il periodo finora più felice della sua esistenza. È così che sua madre Kate (Laura Dern) decide di lasciarlo al padre, Peter (Hugh Jackman), che nel frattempo si è rifatto una famiglia insieme alla sua nuova partner.
Peter cerca di essere una presenza paterna per suo figlio e di comportarsi come avrebbe voluto che suo padre facesse con lui, ma allo stesso tempo deve gestire la sua vita frenetica, che comprende, oltre alla sua famiglia, anche la possibilità di una brillante carriera politica a Washington. Mentre cerca di porre rimedio agli errori del passato, l'uomo perde di vista quello che è il presente di suo figlio
