* Norman G. Finkelstein - Collected Works on Palestine (15 books)
NORMAN G. FINKELSTEIN (b. 1953) is an American political scientist and activist whose primary fields of research are the politics of the Holocaust and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The son of Holocaust survivors, Finkelstein received his doctorate from Princeton University, where his early research set the stage for a lifetime of challenging mainstream historical narratives. He is a fierce critic of Israeli policy and its governing class, and was barred from entry to the country for ten years in 2008. Finkelstein has called Israel a "Jewish supremacist state", and views it as committing the crimes of apartheid and genocide against the Palestinian people.
Finkelstein first gained significant attention by expanding his doctoral research into his seminal work,
IMAGE AND REALITY OF THE ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT (1995), which systematically dissected established histories of the conflict and famously debunked Joan Peters's propaganda. He followed this with a collaborative critique of Zionist historiography titled
A NATION ON TRIAL: THE GOLDHAGEN THESIS AND HISTORICAL TRUTH (1998), co-authored with Ruth Bettina Birn. These early texts established his signature methodology: micro-analyzing the footnotes and primary sources of widely accepted historical texts to expose factual manipulation.
His international breakthrough and most contentious publication came at the turn of the millennium with
THE HOLOCAUST INDUSTRY: REFLECTIONS ON THE EXPLOITATION OF JEWISH SUFFERING (2000). The book argued that the memory of the Holocaust was being weaponized for political and financial gain by Jewish institutions and to shield Israel from criticism. While it achieved bestseller status in Europe, it provoked immense fury in the United States, sparking fierce academic debates that ultimately impacted his university teaching career and solidified his status as an independent scholar.
BEYOND CHUTZPAH: ON THE MISUSE OF ANTI-SEMITISM AND THE ABUSE OF HISTORY (2005) served as an exhaustive critique of Alan Dershowitz’s defense of Israel and analyzed the human rights record in the Palestinian territories.
In
THE RISE AND FALL OF PALESTINE: A PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF THE INTIFADA YEARS (1996), Finkelstein chronicled his visits to the West Bank during the First Intifada. Through personal accounts, he compares the plight of the Palestinians living under the Israeli occupation with the horrors of the Nazis. He subsequently turned his attention to the ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip, producing detailed accounts of military operations and civilian blockades in
THIS TIME WE WENT TOO FAR: TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE GAZA INVASION (2010) and
METHOD AND MADNESS: THE HIDDEN STORY OF ISRAEL'S ASSAULTS ON GAZA (2014), and
GAZA: AN INQUEST INTO ITS MARTYRDOM (2018). In the latter book, Finkelstein documents that the guardians of international law—from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to the UN Human Rights Council—ultimately failed Gaza.
His most recent work,
GAZA’S GRAVEDIGGERS (2026), is an inquiry into international duplicity and complicity in the Gaza genocide. It exposes how a United Nations special representative lent credence to an Israeli smear campaign, how officials in the world’s highest court perverted international law in Israel’s defence, and how even Israel’s severe critics colluded in misrepresenting genocide as a war.
