- largely taken from Suetonus, Plutarch and Tacitus,

however, these novels also draw on Graves' profound

scholarship and knowledge of classical literature.



Graves' story 'A Tenement In Ancient Rome', which he

said was true, explains his special affinity with Rome's

early Imperial period.
