Delicatessen
The story is centered on a microcosm of a post-apocalyptic society where food is so rare it's invaluable and is used as currency. The story centers on an apartment building with a delicatessen on the ground floor. The owner of the eatery also owns the apartment building and he is in need of a new maintenance man since the original "mysteriously" disappeared. A former clown applies for the job and the butcher's intent is to have him work for a little while and then serve him to quirky tenants who pay the butcher in, of course, grain. The clown and butcher's daughter fall in love and she tries to foil her father's plans by contacting the "troglodytes", a grain eating sub-group of society who live entirely underground. The "trogs" are possibly the most sensible of the lot, as they see food as food and not money.
This program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under the age of 17. It contains one or more of the following: graphic violence, explicit sexual content, or crude indecent language.

Note : While American horror cinema honestly got a little lost in the 90s, other places were just starting up new and interesting trends, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro's first film, a postapocalyptic black comedy about cannibalism and nosy neighbours, is an excellent example. Drenched in stylish, grungy art direction, shot in a distinctive brown-yellow-green color palette, and with over the top, pantomime-ish performances, it was something completely new when it came out, and it still holds up today.
In a future after an unspecified catastrophe has rendered the world a foggy, dreary mess, a butcher owns an apartment building with his shop in the ground floor. Occasionally, he murders someone to get fresh meat for his collection of unusual tenants. However, the arrival of a new janitor in the building who turns out to be a former circus clown, upsets the delicate balance when he tentatively starts a romance with the butcher's daughter, and a group of underground dwellers invading the building complicates things further.
This is a quite good remaster, perhaps with a little less grain than what's ideal, but the unusual colors and the high contrast really pop. Sound is good, the director's commentary track (in French with subtitles in various languages) is quite interesting, and all in all this is a good package for a very unique film.
