I finally stopped being lazy and finished this 2006 remake of Negima. I encoded this using the BD remux from -ZR-. He noted "Remux from the New REV BD Set Released by Sentai. We were Unable to Source the Single Vol sets of the Original Vol sets which had the 1080 Cleans, Sentai for some Reason removed them from the REV version. there was Extra Space on the BD50's For them to be Included". What a shame, I would've liked the openings and endings. The BD quality isn't too good, but it's still better than the DVDs. I applied some much needed filtering and aspect ratio correction. I removed the silent minute and a half long English credits at the end because I don't care about them and to save space. I encoded the two DTS-HD MA Japanese and English audio tracks to Opus at 192kbps. The subtitles tracks are the English and Signs & Songs PGS from the BD. The default is Japanese audio and English subs. The subs are surprisingly filled with signs, which is nice. The chapters are from the BD but I renamed them. **Tech Note**
They must've lost the original source material because some episodes are much worse than others. Episodes 4, 7, 8, 12, 16, 18, 20 probably came from a composite source because there's a bunch of rainbowing, dot-crawling, blending, and other artifacts. I couldn't filter correct the rainbowing or blending, but did fix most of the very distracting dot-crawling using TComb. There's gradients everywhere so I debanded with neo_f3kdb. It probably should've been more aggressive in some scenes, but oh well. I noticed compared to the DVDs the BDs were slightly zoomed in and stretched horizontally. To correct that I squished it to match the DVD aspect ratio. The denoising is achieved using the -tune animation parameters from x265 which also helped the slight rolling wavy effect, particularly noticeable on character outlines. I encoded using -preset slow with some -preset slower settings and disabled SAO at crf 18. Interestingly, the audio length was actually shorter than the video length on the BD. They didn't bother to encode silence at the end for the additional English credits, it plays the video in the absence of audio. Lastly, NTFS is the lowest common denominator so I didn't include the '?' in the file names.File list
