Cate McCall - Il Confine Della Verità, film drammatico diretto da Karen Moncrieff, vede protagonista Cate McCall (Kate Beckinsale), una giovane donna avvocato, bravissima nel suo lavoro ma con problemi di alcolismo. Così per mettere fine alla sua dipendenza decide di seguire una terapia. Nonostante i numerosi tentativi di uscirne, un giorno viene sottoposta ad alcoltest e trovata molto al di sopra dei valori normali. Per questo l’Ordine degli avvocati la manda a lavorare in un tribunale minore. Se sul lavoro le cose non vanno per il meglio, anche la vita privata non va per il verso giusto: separata dal marito che si sta per trasferire a Seattle, la donna combatte per ottenere l'affidamento di sua figlia. Un giorno le viene assegnato il caso di Lacey, una ragazza condannata all'ergastolo per omicidio. Per affrontarlo Karen si fa aiutare dal collega Bridges (Nick Nolte) e insieme riescono a fare assolvere la giovane in appello perché dimostrano che è stata stuprata da un investigatore della polizia. Tutto precipita quando l’avvocatessa perde la causa contro il marito e, ciliegina sulla torta, scopre che Lacey non è l’ingenua vittima di un complotto come credeva…
