È Nata Una Stella, film drammatico diretto da Frank Pierson, racconta la storia di John Norman Howard (Kris Kristofferson), un ex cantante di successo che vive ormai le sue giornate affogando i pensieri in alcol e droga. La sua vita sembra prendere una piega diversa quando una sera incontra in un locale Esther Hoffmann (Barbra Streisand), un’affascinante donna con una voce meravigliosa. L’uomo, rimasto profondamente colpito, decide di avvicinarla. Tra loro scoppia una forte passione che si trasforma ben presto in amore. Il sentimento cresce in poco tempo tanto che i due decidono di convolare a nozze. John la apprezza così tanto come artista che decide di aiutarla a diventare una grande star del palcoscenico. E così accade: in pochissimo tempo Esther scala la vetta delle classifiche e riscuote un grandissimo successo nel panorama musicale.

Se da un lato l’uomo è felice per i traguardi della moglie, dall’altro comincia a provare gelosia e questo lo fa sprofondare in uno stato depressivo che lo spinge di nuovo a bere. Tutto si complica quando Esther lo trova a letto con un’altra donna. Riusciranno i due a superare questa crisi e salvare il loro matrimonio o si separeranno per sempre?
