When Dan O'Grady returns to the U.S. after stealing some Irish leprechaun's pot of gold, he thinks he can settle down and enjoy his newfound wealth. He thought wrong. The leprechaun followed him and O'Grady barely gets away with his life, having locked the little monster in his basement. Ten years later, J.D. and his spoiled daughter Tory move in. By accident, the leprechaun is released and almost immediately the annoying creature starts to look for his gold, not displaying any respect for human life.

Note : I actually hadn't seen this cult turkey before, although I was definitely aware of it, and I have to say, I'm not quite sure why it ended up being a cult movie at all. Sure, it's fun to watch Jennifer Aniston in her first film role, I guess, Warwick Davis seems to be having a blast, and some of the makeup and creature effects are pretty decent, but the jokes are unfunny, all the characters are eminently hateable, and the movie is just kind of... bad? Anyway, here it is, Leprechaun 1: Leprechaun in North Dakota, which happens to look a hell of a lot like Southern California.

An Irish-American man returns from his mother's funeral in Ireland with a bag of gold coins he claims to have gotten from a leprechaun, to his wife's disbelief. However, the titular creature soon turns up, kills the wife, and is locked in a crate by the man, who suffers a stroke before he can set the whole thing on fire. Ten years later, Jennifer Aniston takes a detour from her path to Friends and superstardom to visit her dad, who has bought the Leprechaun farm from the previous sequence, and while she's incredibly disgusted by, like, the country, and, like, being outside of California, and, like, dirt, she likes the dude who's painting the farmhouse, so she sticks around. The painter's idiot friend releases the leprechaun, the kid who's tagging along finds the hidden gold, and they're all set to try to survive a night at the farmhouse while the leprechaun tries to straight murder them with incredibly dumb one-liners.

This is a pretty decent transfer of a film that seems to have always been a little dull looking. 5.1 remaster is fine, the commentary tracks are slightly amusing, especially the Warwick Davis one, and all in all, it's probably all you want if you like this film. Which I don't.
