Как выяснилось, играть в гольф 46-летний крановщик из Северной Англии начал всего за пару лет до этого, а его подготовка к чемпионату заключалась исключительно в штудировании учебника из местной библиотеки. Мало того, в сумке Флиткрофта отсутствовала добрая половина необходимых клюшек. Неудивительно, что после этого вопиющего случая правила отбора на турнир были изменены.
