Ambulance, film diretto da Michael Bay, racconta la storia di Will (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) e Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), due fratelli molto diversi tra loro. Il primo è un veterano di guerra, che ha bisogno di 231.000 dollari per pagare un importante intervento a sua moglie; il secondo, invece, è un criminale affermato. Quando Will chiede aiuto economico a Danny, quest'ultimo non gli propone un prestito, ma una rapina, la più grande mai fatta alla banca di Los Angeles, che permetterebbe loro di tornare a casa con 32 milioni di dollari. Will si convince ad accettare, soprattutto perché non ha altre alternative per pagare le spese mediche della moglie.
Durante il colpo, qualcosa va storto. Un ufficiale di polizia, infatti, arriva nella banca per questioni personali, mandando all'aria il piano. Il poliziotto viene gravemente ferito e Will e Danny non hanno altre scelta se non la fuga col bottino. Quando s'imbattono in un'ambulanza, i due ne prendono il controllo, non immaginando che al suo interno ci sia un'infermiera, Cam Thompson (Eiza González) con un poliziotto ferito, che ha bisogno di andare in ospedale. La fuga ad alta velocità tra le strade di Los Angeles si fa sempre più rocambolesca e le forze dell'ordine si spargono per tutta la città.
