Lara Brennan is arrested for murdering her boss with whom she had an argument. It seems she was seen leaving the scene of the crime and her fingerprints were on the murder weapon. Her husband, John would spend the next few years trying to get her released, but there's no evidence that negates the evidence against her. And when the strain of being separated from her family, especially her son, gets to her, John decides to break her out. So he does a lot of research to find a way.

Description
The Next Three Days, il film diretto da Paul Haggis, segue le vicende di John Brennan (Russell Crowe) e di sua moglie Lara Brennan (Elizabeth Banks). La loro vita sembra perfetta fino a che, un giorno, Lara viene arrestata e condannata per un omicidio che afferma di non avere mai commesso. La vittima è il capo della donna. I due hanno litigato e, come emerge dalle indagini, sembra che lei sia stata vista lasciare il luogo del delitto e che le sue impronte siano state rinvenute sull’arma.
Per tre anni John prova a fare di tutto, battendosi per portarla fuori dal carcere e crescendo il loro unico figlio Luke (Ty Simpkins). Quando la Corte Suprema respinge l’ultimo appello dei Brennan e Lara tenta il suicidio, John prende una decisione. Non essendo riuscito in nessun modo a provare l’innocenza della moglie e per evitare che la sua famiglia cada a pezzi, gli rimane una sola possibilità: organizzare l’evasione di sua moglie dal carcere minuziosamente, studiando ogni dettaglio del piano finale.
