Nel 1984, al Circolo polare artico, il Kola Superdeep Borehole è il più grande laboratorio segreto dell'URSS, situato a 12 mila metri sotto terra. Pochi mesi dopo l'apertura del sito, gli scienziati registrano voci e urla di origine sconosciuta. Il laboratorio viene allora chiuso e un team di ricerca d'emergenza, guidato da Anna, viene inviato per scoprire cosa si nasconda nel buco più profondo del mondo.
