This play was written in 1595-6 and is set in Verona, Italy, at a time when a long standing feud between two noble families - the Montagues and the Capulets - constantly breaks out into brawling on the streets. Prince Escalus, ruler of Verona, threatens terrible punishment on anyone who takes part in further violence.

  Viewing this production for the new upload I was reminded of seeing high school Summer Shakespeare productions for a number of seasons where I live and there is little accessible live theatre.  Recently in this collection I have added a number of performances exclusively for young performers such as "The Wolves".  

 

  The story is familiar and many versions are out there.



In this current viewing  I'll note that this is a blend of a version with subtitles for the

play.  I've added in the introduction and interval feature which I had edited in my previous upload of this production.  Here then is a more complete version of that RSC production. The interval extra reminded me a bit of "Hamlet" with Benedict Cumberbatch,  not in the telling of the play but in the extras where he visits with young performers.  With that in mind, my file share collection also includes a documentary called Shakespeare High which is well worth the viewing not just by teachers but by all.  In viewing this production perhaps the viewer will look for what this young talent has done since 2018.
