A normal, average guy who lives in New York City becomes dependent on an evil, disembodied brain. The brain feeds the guy a narcotic substance in exchange for his unwilling assistance in obtaining the brains of innocent victims for sustenance. This turns into a tour of circa-1980s underground NYC clubs, backlots, and other seedy locations. One scene features the band Swimming Pool Cues playing the song "Corruption."

Note : What to say about this punk rock body horror comedy, in which a normal young man acquires an immortal parasite that attaches to the back of his neck, injecting a powerful, addictive psychoactive drug, and all it wants in return is help to murder people so it can eat their brains? Is it an anti-drug after school special gone gonzo? Is it a paean to the liberating effects of substances? Is it significant that most of those killed are women and people of color? Who knows? Is Frank Henenlotter back on his bullshit? Most definitely.

The acting is highly variable, but the special effects are a certain brand of awesome (and definitely very special), there's some good gore, brains extracted by way of parasite blowjob, a cameo from the Basket Case guy, a naked bodybuilder soaping up in the shower, a homicidal pair of elderly drug addicts, and the ending, well, as the director says on the commentary track: What does it all mean? Who knows?

This is a pretty good looking remaster, nice and clean, good contrast and color, etc. The optical effects haven't aged that well, but that's the nature of the beast. Do check out the commentary track, Henenlotter is very entertaining to listen to.
