Il drama post-apocalittico racconta di un mondo in cui un misterioso cataclisma ha sterminato simultaneamente tutti i mammiferi dotati del cromosoma Y, ad eccezione di un uomo cisgender con seri problemi di autostima, Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer), e della sua scimmia Ampersand. Mentre si muovono nella devastazione intorno a loro, Yorick e gli altri sopravvissuti di questo nuovo mondo affrontano le rispettive perdite e tentano con tutte le loro forze di ripristinare ciò che è andato perduto e sfruttare questa opportunità per costruire qualcosa di migliore, guidati da Jennifer Brown (Diane Lane), la madre di Yorick e il nuovo Presidente degli Stati Uniti d'America.
