Cresciuto in un sobborgo operaio nel nord della California, dopo essersi ritirato dal Reed College, Steve Jobs è un'anima persa alla disperata ricerca di un’identità. Viaggia in India alla ricerca dell'illuminazione e, come tanti della sua generazione, sperimenta droghe allucinogene, trovandosi alla fine a sgobbare nell'anonimato per un creatore di videogame senza grandi speranze. Insofferente verso i limiti della vita impiegatizia, si tuffa nel marketing per promuovere una scheda computer inventata da un suo amico d'infanzia, il cervellone Steve "Woz" Wozniak (Josh Gad). Usando le sue innate qualità di marketing unite alle conoscenze tecnologiche, Jobs convince il proprietario di un vicino negozio di elettronica ad acquistarne 100 unità. Arruola una manciata di amici per assemblarle nel garage dei suoi genitori, ed è così che nasce la Apple!
