## Christmas came early! After nearly a year, here's the next iteration of my Curated Collection.
Here's to celebrating the holidays and (finally) the end of 2020.
## TL;DR:
The vast majority of quality H out there all in one torrent, English subbed. **~400 shows**, and **~1000 episodes**, selected out of the **nearly 900 shows watched and rated**. This is an expansion and refinement of [of my previous Curated Collection](https://sukebei.nyaa.si/view/2956921). Download, enjoy, and seed!
## What has changed since the previous Curated Collection?
Err, a lot. Unfortunately, I don't keep meticulous records of my fap patterns so I can't provide a changelog. But here are the general changes:
- **Updated for all H shows released in 2020** (subject to curation of course).
- **I decided to exclude the `H Archived` folder from this release**. Hence the smaller torrent. There are several reasons for this:
- The main collection has grown with the inclusion of 2020 releases, to the point where combined with `H Archived`, I simply do not have enough space and
- `H Archived` essentially hasn't been updated this year anyways-- everything either went into the Collection, or into the Recycle Bin. `H Archived` can still be downloaded at the previous release linked above.
- **hanime.tv releases have been mostly purged**. I was already phasing out hanime.tv releases, and had long planned to replace old hanime.tv releases in the Collection. Why? Simply put the quality of hanime.tv releases is terrible:
- The vast majority of their "1080p" and "720p" are actually upscales of 480p sources. And *terrible* upscales mind you. [This should give you a good idea of how bad the upscales are](https://slow.pics/c/gID6tp8l). The upscale essentially butchers the video source, destroying details, line art, and color. While to most it isn't a big deal, the emphasis on this collection is for archival and long-term storage. Hence, quality is paramount.
- Not only is hanime.tv video terrible, their audio quality is terrible as well. Not sure why they don't retain the audio from the source, but it's possible that they re-encode the audio multiple times (lossy too), or purposely crapped the audio to save on file size.
- Check the FAQ for a bit more on this topic.
- hanime.tv compilations of "mini-episode" H have been retained ie H with 2 minute long episodes. Kept them because it is annoying having to switch to a new episode/skip the OP every 2 minutes.
- **[Puff](https://sukebei.nyaa.si/user/Puff) releases have been integrated into the Collection**. A big thanks to Puff for commenting on the previous Collection release and bringing his work to my attention. To say Puff is obsessed with quality releases wouldn't quite do his releases justice. I've been following his work, and it is S tier quality shit. You may have noticed the release group [SakuraCircle](https://sukebei.nyaa.si/user/tennouji) using his raws. Unfortunately it seems like Puff is no longer active on Nyaa and has moved back to PL-- but I will still be following his releases there.
## FAQs
- **I have the previous Collection downloaded. How do I update it?** Kind of... it's not the most elegant solution, but this might save you some download time.
- Rename the previous Collection's base directory to `Ecuser's Curated H Collection 2021`
- Direct your torrent client to use `Ecuser's Curated H Collection 2021`'s parent folder as the download location
- The torrent client should spend some time comparing, and avoid downloading already existing files. Note that this will not remove files that were deleted or altered for this Collection.
- This should work in theory, but I haven't tested it.
- **What does curated even mean?** I judge the H for its pLoT, voice acting, animation quality, and fetishes covered. I then determine if it's something I (1) want in my regular rotation of fap material, (2) should archive for future research, (3) or delete.
- **That's all very subjective isn't it?** Yes. Yes it is. That being said [I do have fairly broad tastes](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Ecuser) so chances are you'll find something interesting.
- **Can I get a list of H included in this collection?** Most of the H included in this collection will be on [my MAL](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Ecuser). Each of them has a numerical rating. Generally a 5-6 means "acceptable"-- good enough to include in the collection. The vast majority of H under 5 rating are deleted. Alternatively, check the files list under this description. I've also included a snapshot of my MAL profile in the torrent.
- **What is the quality of the H files?** The best I can find. Many are not 720p or 1080p because the raws weren't HD to begin with-- most 720p or 1080p H streamed online are upscales to begin with. If there were BDs available, I sought to obtain BD rips.
- **This torrent is way too big!** You can selectively download parts of the collection that you're interested in. For example: if you don't like watching rape, then only grab the `V` folder for consensual content.
- **How is the collection organized?** There are three folders: MB, R, and V. MB means mind break: non-consensual sex where the victim "converts" and ends up enjoying the rape. R means rape. For the purposes of this collection, it means rape where the victim resists/ does not cave. Generally more brutal than MB. Finally the V folders hold all the consensual sex H-- no rape here.
- **I actually liked hanime.tv releases, 480p sources look like shit!** Unfortunately, the vast majority of H releases are in 480p-- or worse. And for reasons explained above, even if many still think hanime.tv releases look great... they really, objectively aren't. The comparison linked above is a particularly egregious example of how hanime.tv completely destroys the source. ***BUT* I do agree that 480p DVD rips look terrible on modern screens**.
- **Enter the solution:** **[madVR](http://www.madvr.com/)**, the best option on PC for upscaling on the fly. madVR is a video renderer which features a number of upscaling algorithms for locally played media. Despite upscaling as you watch, the quality is surprisingly good [as shown here](https://slow.pics/c/mnjTZ0tZ). Note that this only *~medium* settings on a 1080p screen. Honestly, despite being automatic, madVR does a better job of upscaling than hanime.tv.
- Do note that madVR is dependent on your computer specs. My GTX 960M can upscale 480/720p smoothly at ~medium settings. While you can *probably* upscale with madVR on a device with integrated graphics, you will need to use lower quality settings.
- madVR is compatible with various media players, but I just use [PotPlayer](https://potplayer.daum.net/) since I am lazy and madVR comes pre-installed with PotPlayer. Takes ~10-15 minutes to set up because you'll want to adjust the settings ([of which there are quite a few](https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1709584)) to suit your preferences.
- **How do you organize your files?** This collection [is compatible with AniTag](https://github.com/Sirosky/AniTag), which is what I use to browse the Collection on my PC. I usually just have AniTag's randomize function pick something for me to watch.
