L'Incredibile Storia dell'Isola delle Rose, il film diretto da Sydney Sibilia, è basato su fatti realmente accaduti alla fine degli anni 60 nelle acque del mar Adriatico, poco lontano dalle coste della Romagna. Per quanto incredibile, come lo dice il titolo stesso del nuovo film del regista di Smetto quando voglio, la storia è quella di Giorgio Rosa (Elio Germano), un' ingegnere meccanico bolognese, all'epoca poco più che quarantenne, che creò un microstato indipendente al largo di Rimini. Le poche centinaia di metri quadrati della nazione chiamata "Repubblica Esperantista dell'Isola delle Rose" erano quelle di una piattaforma artificiale progettata dallo stesso Giorgio Rosa.

Accanto al protagonista Germano, nel cast del film troviamo Matilda De Angelis, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Luca Zingaretti, François Cluzet, Thomas Wlaschiha, Leonardo Lidi, Alberto Astorri e Violetta Zironi.
