   "The story concerns Lady Windermere, who suspects that her husband is having an affair with another woman. She confronts him with it but although he denies it, he invites the other woman, Mrs Erlynne, to his wife's birthday ball. Angered by her husband's supposed unfaithfulness, Lady Windermere decides to leave her husband for another lover. After discovering what has transpired, Mrs Erlynne follows Lady Windermere and attempts to persuade her to return to her husband and in the course of this, Mrs Erlynne is discovered in a compromising position."

My notes



  Some creative casting in this gives some unfamiliar actors a chance to do new turns in this comedy of manners by Oscar Wilde.  The humor is in the Oscar Wilde style and you must listen carefully.  No subtitles were available with this play torrent.

My torrent is a recode.  The only difference is the smaller size for easier download.

Many familiar faces can be seen from  Globe Theatre productions where Dromgoole was artistic director.  Samatha Spiro was Katarina in The Globe Taming of the Shrew.

As Mrs. Erlynne she shows a different range but still is a commanding presence.

Jennifer Saunders was new to me but joins the ranks of the great in this show.

Joshua James did an excellent comic turn in the Globe "Tempest" as Ferdinand.  James has a growing list of fine character treatments in the Globe productions.  IMDb has a long listing for him.  And the Globe performances are in my torrent collections.
