Sinopsis
Anne y Bob son un matrimonio de americanos que acaba de instalarse en París y han decidido celebrar una cena en la que reunir a miembros de la alta sociedad americana y parisina. Ella descubre en el último momento que el hijo del primer matrimonio de su marido también ha sido invitado, haciendo así que la cena tenga trece cubiertos. Por simple superstición, decide añadir un decimocuarto cubierto y le pide a su empleada doméstica María que se haga pasar por una rica española. Pero el exceso de vino y una sugerente conversación hacen que María se encariñe accidentalmente con un marchante de arte inglés. Anne no aprueba este romance, y tiene la firme intención de detenerlo.
