Full Metal Jacket

TRAMA

Al campo di addestramento dei marines di Parris Island il sergente Hartman imperversa. Insulta le reclute, le schiavizza, le angaria con ogni mezzo. Il loro unico compagno deve essere il fucile, l'unico scopo diventare delle macchine da guerra. Joker (Modine), per quanto indipendente e anticonformista, ci riesce. Il soldato Lawrence (D'Onofrio), soprannominato "Palla di lardo", non regge la vita militare e i soprusi di cui è continuamente vittima e impazzisce: spara al sergente, quindi si ammazza. Nella seconda parte del film Joker, assegnato alla sezione propaganda, ritrova in Vietnam il suo vecchio compagno "Cowboy" e ne segue il reparto in alcune azioni di guerra. Il gruppo avanza in una città devastata dai bombardamenti, apparentemente abbandonata. Finché si trova sotto il fuoco di un cecchino che inizia a decimarne le fila. Con una sortita Joker e alcuni compagni vanno a stanare il vietcong: scopriranno che è una ragazza, poco più che bambina.
