Sawyer Valentini è una giovane donna, vittima di stalking, che lascia Boston per la Pennsylvania in cerca di una nuova vita. Ma il nuovo lavoro non è l'affascinante opportunità che si aspettava, nella nuova città non si sente mai al sicuro, il passato la perseguita. Così decide di consultare una specialista, ma si ritroverà involontariamente sottoposta a un trattamento presso l'Highland Creek Behavioral Center. Nella clinica psichiatrica si ritrova faccia a faccia con la sua più grande paura: ma è reale o solo frutto della sua mente? Nessuno sembra credere alle sue parole e di fronte ad autorità incapaci o riluttanti ad aiutarla, Sawyer è costretta ad affrontare da sola i fantasmi del passato.
