U konak “Kod Hilmije” navraćaju svi: od komunističkih ilegalaca, ustaša, četnika, vojnika handžar divizije, pa sve do njemačkih vojnika i komandanta grada Štumbafirera Šilinga, gdje jedni drugima ispred nosa kuju zavjere u kojima nacionalne tenzije postaju manje bitne od ličnog materijalnog interesa.

Radnju će dodatno začiniti i dvojica rudara, partizanski ilegalci sakriveni u podrumu konaka, koji imaju zadatak da iskopaju tunel do njemačkog skladišta oružja.
