During a snowy Christmas season in Sweden, psychologist and profiler Inger Johanne Vik finds not only herself but also her autistic daughter drawn into the investigation of a number of disturbing deaths, through which she meets detective Ingvar Nyman of "Rikskrim", a Swedish national police force. Inger Johanne Vik, une ex-profiler renommée du FBI, se retrouve entraînée au c?ur de crimes sordides qui touchent Stockholm. Un homme tue froidement des personnes qui n'ont, en apparence, aucun lien entre elles mais les victimes ne sont pas choisies par hasard, le tueur semble exécuter des ordres bien précis. Inger Johanne n'est pas la seule à être impliquée dans cette histoire, sa fille autiste, témoin du premier meurtre, se retrouve en grand danger... L'enquête conduit Inger à faire équipe avec Ingvar Nymann, un enquêteur de la police criminelle. Ensemble, ils vont rassembler des indices et commencer à trouver un point commun entre les meurtres : ils sont reliés à un réseau international fondamentaliste. La chasse à l'homme commence alors.
