Preoccupato per il crescere dei buddisti e per il cedere della gioventù alle discoteche e alla droga, il Papa, tra gli esercizi ginnici e le lezioni private di lingua italiana, decide di dare l'avvio alla televisione vaticana con uno spettacolo leggero in mondovisione. La regia è affidata a Martin Scorsese e l'allestimento dello spettacolo a Renzo Arbore e alla sua compagnia, Questi accetta e, assicuratosi l'appoggio di Roberto Benigni col quale da un po' è in rotta, trasferisce in Vaticano tutta la sua abituale troupe. Nel corso delle prove, lo stesso Pontefice fa delle capatine; ma, nell'ombra, Benigni complotta e vende Arbore per trenta denari al cardinale Richelieu, a sua volta perplesso sulla paradossale impresa. Benigni tuttavia non riesce nell'intento di spingere Arbore e gli altri a pronunciare parolacce nel corso di una gara a quiz mentre i monitor segreti sono accesi nelle sale del cardinale. Così, dopo tante prove, si giunge all'attesa trasmissione nella quale all'inizio vengono trasmesse notizie sulla situazione religiosa nel mondo e su disastrose attualità. Poi la compagnia comincia, rivolgendo agli spettatori l'invito: "Fedeli di tutto il mondo unitevi!". Il Papa e gli altri ospiti inorridiscono. L'Altissimo scende dal cielo con una macchina targata PAR 0001 e sfascia tutto l'apparato spettacolare. La compagnia Arbore si ritrova a cantare su una nuvoletta.





Concerned about the growth of Buddhists and the giving of youth to discos and drugs, the Pope, between gymnasiums and Italian private lessons, decides to start the Vatican television with a light show in the world of music.
