Codice criminale esplora la vita nomade di una famiglia di outsider e malviventi, ai confini della società e delle leggi civili. Nella verde campagna del Gloucestershire, in Gran Bretagna, i Cutler portano avanti un'insolita tradizione familiare: rapine, corse d’auto e inseguimenti con la polizia. Il capofamiglia/capobanda Colby (Brendan Gleeson) ha educato suo figlio Chad (Michael Fassbender) a non piegarsi a nessuna legge e autorità, allevando un giovane criminale incallito pronto a seguire le orme del padre. Quando però Chad diventa padre a sua volta, matura il desiderio di sottrarsi alla scomoda eredità familiare, abbandonare la vita itinerante e assicurare ai figli e alla moglie Kelly (Lyndsey Marshal) un futuro migliore. Fassbender è un padre in cerca di redenzione, un uomo che si ribella al proprio retaggio, consapevole che il passato non può essere cancellato e che le sue scelte future potrebbero avere conseguenze assai dolorose. La rabbia di Colby e le regole del clan però, non lasciano margine di salvezza.


Criminal code explores the nomadic life of a family of outsiders and malevivents, at the confines of society and civil law. In the green countryside of Gloucestershire, Great Britain, the Cutlers carry an unusual family tradition: robberies, car racing and police pursuits. Colby's (Brendan Gleeson) chief of staff has educated his son Chad (Michael Fassbender) not to bend to any law and authority, raising a young, rampant criminal ready to follow his father's footsteps. When Chad becomes a father in turn, the desire to escape the uncomfortable family inheritance, the abandoning the traveling life, and the children and his wife Kelly (Lyndsey Marshal) grow into a better future. Fassbender is a father in search of redemption, a man rebellious in his legacy, aware that the past can not be erased and that his future choices could have very painful consequences. Colby's anger and clan rules, however, leave no room for salvation.
